Habiba Sabry, Masar Club goalkeeper, commented on her nomination for my award The best in Africa As a young player and goalkeeper for the year 2025.
Habiba Sabry’s statements
Habiba Sabry said in exclusive statements to Cairo 24: My nomination for the awards for Best Goalkeeper and Best Young Player in Africa is a very positive thing, and gives me great motivation to continue working on developing myself and improving my level.
Regarding the comparison between her and Habiba Essam after the duo were nominated for the Best Young Player Award, she added: I do not see that there is a direct competition between me and Habiba Essam. We are different, and each of us has our own style. The real competition, in my opinion, is with other female players on the level of the African continent.
She continued: My mother is my biggest supporter in my football career, and she stood by me at every step. The biggest challenge I faced was some people’s view of football as a game reserved for males only, which was something that bothered me a lot.
She explained that women’s football has begun to witness remarkable development, and there has been greater interest from clubs in participating in the game, which has contributed to its development. Our inclusion in the CAF awards lists confirms that we are moving in the right direction, and that the future of women’s football will be promising and different.
Regarding her future ambitions, she said: My goal for the coming period is professionalism abroad, and to work hard to achieve this dream.
Habiba Sabry concluded her speech by thanking Masar Club: I thank Masar Club and its officials for their continued support for me during the last period. I have benefited greatly from my experience with them, and they were a major reason, after God’s grace, for me reaching this level.
