The launch of the Sun Perpendiculars Festival in Aswan
Aswan Governorate witnessed the launch of the Devil’s Sun Perpendicular Festival, where a large audience gathered in a joyful festive atmosphere, as part of the festival’s activities, which is held under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno, Minister of Culture, and organized by the General Authority of Culture Palaces, to celebrate the unique astronomical phenomenon of the sun perpendicular to the face of the statue of King Ramses II in the Abu Simbel Temple.
Impressive events and prominent attendance
A number of prominent figures were present at the events, such as Major General Khaled Fouda, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Local Development, Major General Dr. Ismail Kamal, Governor of Aswan, Major General Khaled Al-Labban, Assistant Minister of Culture, Architect Hamdi Al-Satohi, Head of the Cultural Development Fund, in addition to the artist Ahmed Al-Shafi’i, Head of the Central Administration for Artistic Affairs. The film was launched from the Aswan city market with wide public participation, where the popular arts groups presented various performances that embodied the rich Egyptian heritage, and the people and visitors interacted greatly with the performances, which added an atmosphere of joy to the event.
Details of the opening ceremony
The official opening ceremony of the festival will be held today, Friday, at eight o’clock in the evening, at the Fawzy Fawzy Theater. The ceremony will include an artistic performance by participating popular arts groups from various governorates, such as Aswan, Luxor, Port Said, and Al-Arish. An outlet will also be opened to sell the products of the authority’s craft and artistic workshops, and the festival will continue with performances in eleven cultural and tourist sites in various governorate centers, which will contribute to enhancing cultural tourism in Aswan.
Closing of the festival
The festival activities conclude on Wednesday morning, October 22, with artistic performances in front of Abu Simbel Temple, coinciding with the moment of sunrise, making this event a unique and unforgettable experience for visitors and locals alike.
