The General Secretariat of the House of Representatives issued a special report on the “Green Parliament”, coinciding with “Tree Week” celebrated by the Kingdom of Bahrain, in support of national environmental plans, under the high royal patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the great King of the country, may God protect and preserve him, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him.
On this occasion, Engineer Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, stated that the issuance of the special report on the “Green Parliament”, which he had the honor of submitting to His Majesty the King, may God protect and preserve him, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, Speaker of the House of Representatives, on the occasion of the House of Representatives obtaining accreditation for the implementation of (ISO for Environmental Management Systems) from the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), making the House of Representatives at the forefront of legislative institutions. Regionally in the field of environmental management, and reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s interest in the environmental field in accordance with a civilized and sustainable institutional vision.
The Secretary-General added that the participation of the House of Representatives in the activities of “Tree Week” comes in support of consolidating the culture of preserving the environment and the sustainability of its resources, raising environmental awareness in society, increasing green spaces, and the afforestation plan, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
The Secretary-General confirmed that the “Green Parliament” report is a documentary study that includes details about the concept of the ISO environmental management system in the House of Representatives, the stages of its implementation, its most prominent projects and initiatives, and its future prospects.
He pointed out that the report was printed on environmentally friendly papers, and that a number of councils and parliaments praised the project and asked to benefit from it and share the experience in the field of environmental management in preparation for obtaining ISO accreditation and supporting parliamentary work in this regard.
He explained that spreading and strengthening the concept of the “Green Parliament” comes in line with Bahrain Vision 2030, the directions of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals, including: (Goal 11) by rationalizing the consumption of resources in the building and climate action, (Goal 13) by reducing the carbon footprint, (Goal 16) regarding strong institutions and enhancing transparency and environmental efficiency of the legislative institution (Goal 16).
