Al-Watan newspaper celebrated Tree Week in cooperation with the Capital Municipality, where the Director-General of the Capital Municipality, Mohammed Al-Sahli, visited the newspaper’s headquarters, accompanied by a mobile nursery to distribute agricultural seedlings to the newspaper’s employees, in celebration of Tree Week, and to emphasize the importance of increasing the green area, enhancing community awareness of the importance of afforestation and caring for the environment, and supporting national efforts aimed at sustaining vegetation in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The Director General toured the newspaper’s headquarters, where he distributed agricultural seedlings to all employees in an atmosphere of friendliness and positive interaction, stressing the importance of the participation of various community institutions in supporting environmental initiatives that contribute to preserving the beauty of the Kingdom and its natural environment. On the sidelines of the visit, the Director of the Capital Municipality, Mohammed Al-Sahli, stressed the importance of the Municipality’s participation in Tree Week activities, indicating that this national occasion focuses on the importance of caring for trees and green spaces in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As part of ongoing efforts to increase the green area and enhance environmental awareness in society.
He explained that the afforestation initiative implemented by municipalities represents an important step towards doubling the number of trees in the Kingdom in the coming years, stressing that the municipality is continuing in this endeavor in order to achieve a more sustainable and beautiful environment.
He added that the message of Tree Week is to establish a culture of caring for trees because of their great benefits to the individual and society, both environmentally and health-wise, noting that increasing green spaces contributes to improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions and flying dust.
Al-Sahli pointed out that participation in this initiative is available to everyone, and that trees are dear to the hearts of Bahrainis because of the symbolism they represent and the clear concern for the environment, calling for their continuous preservation and care.
He stressed that work is underway to enhance the green density in public parks, while being careful not to affect the comfort of their visitors, stressing the importance of the community being a partner in preserving these spaces by appreciating the value of trees and caring for them, to set an example for future generations.
