In an official statement, Aston Villa confirmed that it had been informed that fans of the away team, Maccabi Tel Aviv, would not be allowed to attend the match in the Europa League on Thursday, November 6, based on instructions from the Safety Advisory Group.
The Safety Consulting Group is responsible for issuing safety certificates for each match at Villa Park, based on a number of physical and safety factors.
The club indicated that following a meeting held this afternoon, the Safety Advisory Group has officially written to the club and UEFA to inform them that no Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will be allowed at Villa Park.
Birmingham Police informed the Safety Advisory Group that there were public safety concerns outside the stadium, and their ability to deal with any potential protests that night.
Aston Villa revealed that it is in constant dialogue with Maccabi Tel Aviv and local authorities throughout this ongoing process, with the safety of fans attending the match and the safety of local residents at the forefront of any decision.
