Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, coach of Real Madrid, decided to give his French player Kylian Mbappé a complete rest during the match against Getafe scheduled to be held next Sunday in the ninth round of the Spanish League championship.
Alonso’s decision came as a precautionary measure following the recurrence of his ankle injury during his last participation with the French national team, a few days before the expected confrontation against traditional rivals FC Barcelona in the El Clásico.
Mbappe suffered a new ankle injury during his participation with his country’s national team against the Azerbaijan national team, in the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
Mbappe’s injury against Azerbaijan caused him to miss the match against Iceland and return directly to Real Madrid, and the French star had previously missed the Villarreal match prior to the international break.
Press reports confirmed that Alonso preferred not to risk Kylian Mbappe, the team’s top scorer in the current period, and gave him complete rest to ensure his full physical and mental recovery, especially in light of the crowded match schedule in the coming period.
Real Madrid is preparing to play a series of strong confrontations this month, as it will meet Getafe in the Spanish League on the 19th, after which it will have a date with three strong matches at the “Santiago Bernabeu” stadium, where it will meet with Juventus in the Champions League, then two El Clasico matches against Barcelona and Valencia in the Spanish League, with the series concluding with a strong match against Liverpool in the Champions League.
