Engineer Ibrahim bin Hassan Al-Hawaj, Minister of Works, praised the launch by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, of Tree Week and the directives of His Highness to organize the innovation competition in irrigation solutions, which aims to encourage creative ideas and solutions to develop irrigation solutions and expand their networks in public areas, which contributes to strengthening afforestation efforts, increasing green spaces and sustaining water resources in the Kingdom of Bahrain, noting that this The directive embodies the great belief in the importance of supporting innovation in water resources management to achieve the desired sustainability.
The Minister also participated in planting a tree in the vicinity of the Ministry of Works headquarters in Manama, noting that this initiative represents the consolidation of the culture of agriculture and afforestation as a community approach that contributes to enhancing sustainability initiatives, adopting environmentally friendly practices, and spreading green spaces in various regions of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The Minister stressed that the directive of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister reflects the government’s interest in developing modern irrigation solutions as an essential element in the success of the afforestation plan, explaining that the competition opens the way for companies and individuals to present practical innovations that contribute to improving the efficiency of water use and ensuring a balanced distribution of irrigation for trees and crops, thus raising the efficiency of agricultural and urban beautification operations in various regions of the Kingdom.
The Minister explained that the Ministry of Works, in cooperation with the concerned authorities, has begun implementing the directives of His Highness, may God protect him, by establishing regulatory mechanisms for the competition to ensure the achievement of its objectives in developing irrigation networks and expanding their scope using the latest technologies, stressing that the Ministry is working to enhance integration between infrastructure projects and environmental projects to ensure the achievement of sustainable development in various sectors.
The Minister added that the Ministry is continuing its efforts to increase the use of surplus treated water in irrigating public spaces and gardens, and to expand the scope of its use in new projects, in a way that supports the Kingdom’s goals in sustaining water and environmental resources, noting that applying smart and innovative irrigation solutions will contribute to raising the efficiency of water management and rationalizing its consumption in road projects and public areas.
He concluded by emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to supporting national initiatives aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and achieving the goals of the government program (2023-2026) and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, through developing modern irrigation solutions that keep pace with the requirements of sustainable urban and environmental development.
