Dr. Amr Talaat confirmed Minister of Communications and Information Technology: There is close cooperation between the Ministries of Communications and Information Technology and Water Resources and Irrigation, in implementing a number of projects with the aim of employing information technology and artificial intelligence techniques in water resources management. Pointing out the importance of concerted efforts to enhance innovative thinking and adapt technology to confront challenges related to water stress.

This came in Dr. Amr Talaat’s speech during the “Egypt-European Union Investment Forum” session within the activities of the “Eighth Cairo Water Week”, in the presence of Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Jessica Roswall, European Union Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and the Competitive Circular Economy, and Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt.
In his speech, Dr. Amr Talaat explained the aspects of cooperation between the Ministries of Communications and Information Technology and Water Resources and Irrigation, which include building a system using artificial intelligence techniques and image processing technology, with the aim of governing the operations of clearing waterways and removing weeds in an organized and controlled manner, ensuring that the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation maximizes the effectiveness of the disinfection operations and the efficient flow of water to agricultural lands.
Dr. Amr Talaat pointed out cooperation in implementing a project that aims to rationalize the use of groundwater and improve its management through two pillars of work, the first of which is completing everything related to the process of drilling wells and the licenses issued for them, and monitoring the rates of water extraction from these wells and their uses. The second pillar is a digital simulation of groundwater reservoirs located in Egypt, allowing the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to monitor these reservoirs and their movement, and Then control their use.
Dr. Amr Talaat added that the third project is concerned with identifying the actual crop composition in each agricultural loop, through analyzing satellite images at the beginning of the agricultural seasons in a way that enables the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to plan the water resources required in each loop, and then plan what will be required of those resources, and ensure the cultivation of high-consumption crops such as rice and others in the areas determined by the government, and in the areas The quantities determined by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation must not be exceeded, as well as ensuring that the crop composition in each agricultural plot is fully consistent with Egypt’s water policies.
