Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment, and Tomas Taraba, Minister of the Environment of the Slovak Republic, signed a memorandum of understanding for technical cooperation in the field of environmental protection and climate change, on the sidelines of the opening of the eighth Cairo Water Week, in the presence of Ambassador Raouf Saad and a number of relevant leaders.
Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment, confirmed that signing the memorandum of understanding with Tomas Taraba, Minister of Environment of the Slovak Republic, comes as a continuation of Egypt’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships to confront environmental and climate challenges, and to support the exchange of experiences with friendly countries.
The memorandum was signed in the presence of Ambassador Raouf Saad, the minister’s advisor for multilateral agreements, and a number of concerned leaders, on the sidelines of the opening of the eighth Cairo Water Week, which is held during the period from 12 to 16 October under the slogan of innovative solutions for climate resilience and water sustainability, and with broad participation from ministers, governors, decision makers, international experts, representatives of international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.
Dr. Manal Awad explained that the signing of the memorandum stems from the close friendly relations between the two countries, a desire to support mutual efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change and adapt to it, and an awareness of the importance of achieving sustainable development that ensures the protection of the environment and the preservation of natural resources for the benefit of current and future generations.
She added that the memorandum of understanding aims to develop and enhance technical cooperation between the two sides in the areas of environmental protection, including the exchange of expertise, knowledge and technology on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, noting that the areas of cooperation include mitigation and adaptation to the effects of climate change, environmental planning, and protection of nature and biodiversity, in addition to other areas that the two parties will agree on in the future.
