Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, Governor of Fayoum, opens the fishing season in Lake Qarun, today, Sunday, after fishing in the lake was prohibited since August 7, to preserve the shrimp larvae and fish fry that were thrown into the lake’s waters.
The governorate pumped 5 million shrimp larvae over specific time frames, starting on August 7, as part of the state’s efforts to rehabilitate Lake Qarun and raise its fish productivity. Fishing in Lake Qarun was prohibited, in order to preserve the shrimp larvae and fish fry until they grow and reach sizes suitable for fishing.
The local administration organized campaigns to tighten control and periodic follow-up to prevent overfishing in Lake Qarun during the closure period, which continued from the date of closure until the 8th of this month of October, while establishing robust mechanisms to avoid negative practices that harm fish wealth, with the aim of restoring the environmental balance and aquatic life of Lake Qarun, after the lake witnessed a noticeable improvement in its water characteristics based on the results of periodic analyzes that were conducted. With the knowledge of the relevant authorities, what contributed positively to the natural growth of the recently landed shrimp larvae.
Fishing in the lake continues with the types of fish specified by the Fisheries Authority, until the time of landing new fry in accordance with the plan to improve the lake’s production.
