The government had reservations about Shura’s draft law establishing a sports support fund.
The government explained that the proposed draft law is not sufficiently compatible with the existing institutional framework for the sports sector, and raises problems related to the overlapping of executive roles between the General Sports Authority and the fund to be established in the absence of clear mechanisms for coordination and oversight that guarantee integration and avoid duplication.
According to the government, the absence of precise requirements for interim financial planning, and the absence of binding paths towards financial independence, may weaken the Fund’s ability to achieve its goals in a sustainable manner.
