The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported the start of the transfer of Palestinian prisoners who will be released from Israeli prisons, as part of the exchange deal between Israel and Hamas.
The newspaper said: Hundreds of fighters in the Nahshon Unit of the Israeli Prison Service began transferring security prisoners expected to be released under the deal, from five different prisons to the prisons from which they are scheduled to be released. This came after the Prison Service received the release order.
Release of Palestinian prisoners
While the Prison Service is completing its preparations to release hundreds of prisoners as part of the deal, it is preparing for the challenge that will follow, and a senior officer in the Prison Service fears the outbreak of riots among those whose names will not be included in the list of those released, according to the newspaper.
The Hebrew newspaper added: In addition to logistical preparations for the release of about 250 life prisoners and about 1,700 detainees from Gaza who were arrested after October 7, the Prison Service warns that even after the deal is completed, about 9,000 security prisoners will remain behind bars.
