The Philippine government announced, on Wednesday, the death of a Filipino crew member of a Dutch cargo ship as a result of wounds he sustained following an attack launched by the Houthis last week in the Gulf of Aden.
The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack that targeted the cargo ship “Minerfagracht” in September, causing a fire and wounding two people.
The Philippine Ministry of Migrant Workers reported that the second victim of the attack, also a Filipino, is recovering from his injuries, while ten other crew members were returned to Manila last weekend.
The Minister of Migrant Workers, Hans Cacdak, wrote on the “X” platform that Philippine officials are on their way to Djibouti, accompanied by his deceased sailor brother and his wife, to meet the ship’s owner and arrange for the repatriation of the remains.
Following the outbreak of the war in Gaza, the Houthis began launching missiles and drones towards Israel, and launched attacks on commercial ships they say are linked to it off the coast of Yemen, stressing that this comes in support of the Palestinians.
On the other hand, Israel launched bloody strikes on Houthi-controlled areas, targeting ports, power stations, and Sanaa International Airport.
