Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, congratulated Dr. Khaled Al -Anani on his victory in the position of the new Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as the first Egyptian and Arab to hold this high international position in 80 years of the organization’s history.

The minister stressed that this historical victory is a great source of pride, and reflects the success of the Egyptian state in promoting its international presence, and the distinction of Egyptian competencies in international forums.
The minister expressed his wishes for Dr. Khaled Al -Anani success in his new mission, stressing his confidence in his ability to make more positive contributions to support science, education and culture during his leadership of the international organization.
Dr. Khaled Al -Anani, the UNESCO General Manager, said that he will work with all countries, including countries that have not voted for him, saluting him to his Congolese rival, who lost before him.
He added in his speech after announcing his election from the organization’s executive council: I express my thanks to my country, Egypt, which entrusted me with this task, and I have a gift that I thank you for.
He continued: I also thank the Arab countries and the African Union, which adopted my nomination, and I thank the countries that did not vote for me and I will work with everyone.
Al -Anani won an unprecedented number of voices
Before the official media, Ambassador Alaa Youssef, the Egyptian ambassador to Paris, wrote on Facebook: On the day of victory .. Congratulations to Egypt to win the position of Director General of UNESCO .. Dr. Khaled Al -Anani sweeps the elections with an unprecedented number of votes.
Al -Anani was the favorite candidate to win the secret ballot, and he actually won for a period of 4 years, succeeding French Azoulay, who held the position for two periods of four years, which is the maximum period for the position.
