Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, targets the production of solar energy throughout the day, and the introduction of a system for storing energy using batteries, which contributes to achieving annual fuel saving estimated at $ 224 million, in addition to improving the efficiency of operating and reducing fuel consumption from 180 grams to 169 grams per kilo/hour.
A giant Chinese project to manufacture energy batteries in Egypt
In this context, the ministry revealed an agreement with the Chinese “Sanju” group to establish a factory to manufacture energy storage batteries in Egypt, with an annual production capacity of 10 gigawatts.
The project comes within the framework of the company’s strategy to expand the Egyptian market and enhance cooperation in the field of new and renewable energy.
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, confirmed during a press conference that the state prepared an integrated plan to establish the factory with direct support from President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi, and the actual operation is scheduled to start before the end of 2026.
The minister pointed out that direct investments in the project exceed 120 million dollars, noting that the investments of the Egyptian side of this project are the fields of construction and infrastructure.
A qualitative shift in the national energy strategy
The project comes within the framework of the national energy strategy, which aims to diversify electricity sources and increase dependence on renewable energy in the national energy mix. The project also constitutes an important step towards enhancing the stability of the national network, ensuring the continuity of electrical nutrition, improving operating quality, and meeting the increasing demand for energy in light of the developmental expansion.
The introduction of electricity storage technologies through batteries enhances the elasticity of the electrical network, contributes to reducing fuel consumption, raising the efficiency of performance, and maintaining the sustainability of electricity in various parts of the Republic.
