Major General Hisham Abu Al -Nasr, Governor of Assiut, participated in the evening of Egypt, in the Monastery of the Virgin Mary in Denka to celebrate the visit of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, as part of his pastoral tour in the governorate, in the presence of St. Yaanas Bishop of Assiut to the Copts of the Orthodox and head of the Monastery of the Virgin Mary in Mount Dernaka.
A message of love and peace from the heart of Upper Egypt
The evening was launched in Republican Peace and then hymns presented by the monastery, followed by the word Anba Yaanan, who welcomed the Pope, stressing that Assiut, who embraces two points on the path of the Holy Family’s journey, remains a witness to Egypt’s ancient history and a symbol of love and peace among its children.
During his speech, the governor of Assiut, Major General Hisham Abu Al -Nasr, expressed his pride in visiting His Holiness, considering that it is a historical event and a spiritual and national message that stems from the heart of Upper Egypt to the whole world.
He emphasized that the scene of the great attendance reflects a mini image of all of Egypt, saying: If the place allows, we would see millions of Assiut sons lined up to welcoming your sanctity, this is the true face of Egypt, one country that includes everyone in a firm fabric.
The governor praised the role of the Egyptian Church and its men through the ages in promoting the values of tolerance and brotherhood, stressing that it was and still is a major partner in the path of the homeland, and an authentic pillar of national unity, pointing to the pioneering role of President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi, and the tremendous efforts in development, protecting the country and consolidating security and stability.

For his part, Pope Tawadros II expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, noting that Egypt will always remain a unique model in coexistence and unity, and that its true power lies in the cohesion of its people, and the Pope cited the uniqueness of Egypt and its extended history, saying: The homeland is a word consisting of fulfillment, reassurance and grace, and what increases the privacy of our home Nile, civilization, antiquities and history.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf in Assiut also pointed to the coincidence of this historical visit, the month of victories and the glorious October victory celebrations, in which all Egyptians are Coptic and Muslims in defending the soil of the homeland, stressing the message of peace and love that appears in this great gathering between all spectrums of society.
The Vice President of Al -Azhar University for the Upper Egypt also described that the visit of His Holiness the Pope and the warm reception in the diocese churches explains that the church is one body, although it is in separate places, indicating the honor of Islam for Mrs. Mary the Virgin and Christ Jesus, peace be upon them.
St. Thomas, Bishop of Qusiya, considered that the meeting of all state institutions in this evening reflects that we are at the heart of one man we seek to develop and advance the Egyptian man, adding a greeting of appreciation to President Sisi, who is leading the country steadily towards security and peace.
The evening concluded with an atmosphere full of love and friendliness, to reaffirm that Egypt – the land of civilization and holiness – will remain difficult to distinguish, strong with its unity, firmly rooted with its children, and luminous with the messages of peace that starts from the heart of Upper Egypt to the world.
