In implementation of the Royal Order of the Highness of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the king of the country, may God protect and preserve him, to preserve the historical and cultural identity of the buildings and cities of Bahrain, revive the great Isa Palace and develop the city of Muharraq in a way that preserves its historical and cultural identity, and in implementation of the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Prime Minister to activate the executive plan for preserving the historical identity Cultural for the buildings and cities of Bahrain and launching a plan to develop the city of Muharraq, the Ministry of Works announced the start of work on the project to develop Sheikh Abdullah Street and Sheikh Issa Street in Muharraq Governorate, as one of the projects accompanying the project to develop the Isa Grand Palace.
The project aims to develop the infrastructure and upgrade the level of roads leading to the Isa Grand Palace, to suit the cultural and heritage monuments of development projects in the region, and in line with the aspirations of the people, and at the same time reflects the balance between preserving Bahraini originality and the requirements of modern urban development, thus constitutes a qualitative addition to infrastructure development projects in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The project works to develop roads and infrastructure with a total length of about 1.2 km on Sheikh Abdullah Street from its intersection with Sheikh Salman Street, and Sheikh Hamad Bridge in the west near Beit Bin Matar until its intersection with Sheikh Issa Street in the east, near the Sheikh Isa bin Ali Mosque, to extend the development work on Sheikh Issa Street in the south to Sheikh Salman House.
The project, which was established by the Board of Tender and Auctions on Hajj Hassan S.B., includes the construction of roads and sidewalks and the provision of a number of parking lots, afforestation and cosmetic work in the available spaces. The project also includes developing ground services from the work of the rain water drainage network, the sewage network, replacing the water distribution network and others. The project also contains improving urban facades and unifying lighting elements and commercial banners, reflecting the authentic Bahraini architectural identity.
The project is scheduled to be completed in conjunction with the opening of the Issa Kabir Palace, during the first quarter of next year 2026, where it is hoped that the project will make a qualitative shift in meeting the requirements of urban development and population expansion while preserving the unique societal fabric of the city of Muharraq, which is characterized by its ancient history and authenticity.
