Prosecution: Prison and a fine of 65 thousand dinars, and obligatory to pay the tax for an accused who evades the payment of value -added tax

The head of the tax evasion unit at the Financial Crimes and Money Laundering Prosecutions stated that the first major criminal court issued a ruling today in an incident accused of paying the value of the value -added tax on the services provided by his company, as he collected the tax from customers without supplying it to the National Revenue.

The court ruled that the accused was convicted of punishing him for a period of three years, and obligating him to pay the value of the tax due, amounting to sixty -five thousand and one hundred and two dinars, and sixty -eight fils, and with his fine amount of the value of the tax due.

The unit had received a complaint from the National Revenue Agency against the owner of a commercial company, for collecting the value -added tax from customers and submitting tax decisions to the device without paying the tax due, in an explicit violation of the provisions of the law. The monitoring operations conducted by the National Revenue Agency revealed that the company is registered for value -added tax purposes, and that the accused submitted tax decisions without paying the collected tax.

The Public Prosecution began investigations into the incident as soon as it received the complaint, and issued an order to prevent the accused from traveling until the investigations were completed. It also listened to the testimonies of the National Integrity Specialists, and was seen on the documents indicating the commission of the crime.

Based on the proven evidence, the prosecution interrogated the accused and confronted him, as he acknowledged what was attributed to him.
