The former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, Tang Ranjian, was sentenced to a suspended execution, after a court in Jelin has convicted him of bribery.
The China News Agency (Xinhua) said today, Sunday, that Tang was convicted of receiving bribes that included cash and property of more than 268 million yuan (37.6 million dollars) during his assumption of various positions in the period from 2007 to 2024.
It stated that the Changchon Medium People’s Court suspended the execution of the death sentence against him for two years, noting that he had recognized his crimes.
In November 2024, the Communist Party of Chinese Tang dismissed about 6 months after the Anti -Corruption Commission opened an investigation with him and his dismissal from his post.
The investigation of Tang was characterized by the usual speed, and it came after similar investigations with Defense Secretary Lee Shang Fu and his predecessor Wei Feng.
Chinese President Xi Jinping began a wide cleansing campaign within the internal security services in 2020, with the aim of ensuring what he described as “complete loyalty, complete purity and absolute reliability” among police officers, representatives of the public prosecutor and judges.
According to Tang’s official biography, Tang has served as governor of Gansu region, western China from 2017 to 2020, before he was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
In January, Xi said that corruption represents the greatest threat facing the Chinese Communist Party and that it is still increasing.
