Dr. Ali Aouf, head of the Drugs Division of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, said that had it not been for the food supplements industry, about 50% of the pharmaceutical companies in Egypt would have incurred losses and closed, due to the reason that the drugs are subject to forced pricing, while the nutritional supplements are valid freely, which made them as a kiss of life that saved the drug industry inside the country.
Auf added during television statements, that the raw materials that are imported from abroad do not contain any harmful additions or hormones, due to the lack of an interest among suppliers in this, while local manufacturing operations are subject to standards binding on international quality specifications.
He continued: The supplement industry has witnessed an accelerated growth in the local market since 2018, after the market was largely dependent on smuggled or adulterated products.
Auf pointed out that national factories have become high -quality supplements comparable to the importer.
For his part, Dr. Osama Ghoneim, an international anti -doping expert, stressed the need to take nutritional supplements under specialized medical supervision, pointing out that various sports have become mainly dependent on them.
Ghoneim warned of the danger of taking testosterone from external sources, explaining that this leads to infertility, considering that the introduction of these hormones intentionally may aim to influence youth fertility.
Dr. Osama Ghoneim also warned of the dangers of misuse of nutritional supplements, as some celebrities died as a result of excessive dependence without eating natural food, which leads to serious health problems.
Ghoneim said that locally produced nutritional supplements are devoid of testosterone, but at the same time he warned that excessive consumption and storage of proteins inside the body may cause damage to the liver and kidneys.
He continued: There are factories committed to standards and produce safe products, in exchange for another unlicensed, known as factories under Bir Al -Salam.
Moody supplements industry
As for the level of supplements industry, Dr. Mohamed Anwar, President of the Egyptian Association for the Exporters and Producers of Dietary Supplements, said that the supplement sector is growing in a huge manner, as the number of licensed factories has increased from 7 factories only in 2021 to 41 factories currently.
Anwar added that these factories produce about 12 thousand products with investments that have reached 10 billion pounds, noting that the market is on the threshold of entering 50 new factories and 100 production lines under construction.
The president of the association explained that the exports of nutritional supplements recorded 350 million dollars last year, and we aim to reach one billion dollars by 2030.
