This came during his participation in the “regional round table: tracks towards transformation: promoting the implementation of the Arab vision 2045”, organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Economic and Social Committee for Western Asia (Eskua) and the League of Arab States, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York, with the participation of Ahmed Abu Al -Ghait, Secretary -General of the League of Arab States, Dr. Rola Dashti, and the agent of the Secretary The United Nations General and the Executive Secretariat of the Eskwa, Dr. Abdullah Al -Dardari, Assistant Secretary -General of the United Nations and Regional Director of the United Nations Development Program for Arab States, Dima Al Yahya, Secretary -General of the Digital Cooperation Organization, and Dr. Rabeh Arzaki, a colleague at Kennedy College at Harvard University and former chief economist of the Middle East and North Africa region at the World Bank.
Muhyiddin said that the Arab region is currently facing severe intertwined crises that include geopolitical disturbances, economic and debt stresses, climate crises, food and energy security, which led to an increase in the rate of poverty and unemployment, as well as a financing gap for sustainable development goals exceeding 660 billion dollars annually, and a climate financing gap estimated at about $ 570 billion by 2030.
Muhyiddin put forward six major work paths to translate the goals of the Arab vision 2045 into practical paths, with a focus on taking advantage of the major global trends of digital and green transformation, and these tracks (1) included total economic stability through the restructuring of debts, expanding investment in manufacturing industries, services, digital economy and green sectors, improving transparency in public finance and promoting institutions to combat Corruption and confidence building.
The second track, according to Mohiuddin, is (2) to deepen regional cooperation, as he explained that Arab inter -trade is still much lower than required, calling for reducing customs duties and non -customs barriers, and investing in communication through the corridors of transportation and joint digital networks, and indicated in this context that the Asian model provides a useful experience by focusing on trade, investment, and technology transport.
Muhyiddin stated that the third track is (3) the digital transformation, as it called for the expansion of digital infrastructure and investment in digital skills and the development of environmental systems to support startups, and he said that the fourth track is (4) the green transformation, stressing the need to diversify energy clips, fill green financing, promote sustainable agriculture and water management.
He added that the fifth path is (5) investing in human capital and social integration, as it called for expanding education and training, addressing unemployment, expanding social protection, and creating opportunities for women for full participation in the economy, while the sixth track is (6) the adoption of local financing forms, where Mohieldin stressed the importance of localizing climate financing and ensuring its flow through local institutions to reach more groups of people.
Mohiuddin stressed that the Arab vision 2045 must become a “citizens’ document” that is owned and implemented not only by states and policy makers, but also by entrepreneurs, workers, farmers, women and youth, as he called for the transfer from ambition to implementation, and from extensive strategies to measurable results, with the importance of following up on progress made in their implementation through clear indicators.
