The Ministry of Agriculture commented on what was raised through a video clip, on social media, about the presence of tomatoes in the markets that were sprayed with “Ether”, to accelerate maturity and external coloring of the fruit.
There is no truth to what was raised about the presence of tomatoes in the markets that were sprayed with Ether
Agriculture said that this conversation is unfounded, as the white color inside the tomato fruits is due to a number of reasons, including:
First: The high temperatures when ripening, which is called heat stress or fluctuations in temperatures, high and low temperature during the ripening of fruits, which affects the formation of lycopene dye and is responsible for the red color in the fruits of tomatoes.
Second: Also among the other causes is a lack of potassium fertilization, calcium fertilization, or increased nitrogen fertilization.
It must be noted that these reasons are individual or combined, causing the white color inside the fruits of tomatoes, and the matter has no relationship to spraying fruits with any materials to color them.
It must be noted that eating these tomatoes, which were exposed to these causes or climatic conditions, has no negative impact on consumer health.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation appeals to the media, and social media pioneers of resolution and caution when transferring information, and the need to meet information from its official sources, to prevent confusion and stir public opinion.
