Minister of Communications and Communications: The Kingdom of Bahrain attaches utmost importance to preserving the seas and enhancing their sustainability

Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Communications and Communications, stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain attaches great importance to preserving the seas and working to enhance their sustainability, based on its established conviction that the seas constitute a basic pillar of global trade, and an important source of food security and economic development, in conjunction with the celebration of the International Day of Maritime Navigation 2025, which coincides with the twenty -fifth of September, and this year is held under the slogan Our surroundings, our commitment, our opportunity

The Minister of Communications and Communications pointed out that the maritime shipping sector represents the main pillar of global trade, as it transports more than 80% of goods between the countries of the world through more than 50 thousand international commercial ships operating internationally, registered in more than 150 countries and operating on board nearly two million sailors. Adding that the maritime sector is a major partner in international efforts to preserve the oceans and reduce the effects of climate change, in line with the United Nations sustainable development goals and the strategy of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

He added that the Kingdom of Bahrain, and since its joining the International Maritime Organization in 1976, has been keen to adhere to international standards by joining about 26 agreements and protocols, they constitute the most prominent international maritime agreements that support the safety of lives in the seas and protect the marine environment and facilitate and secure maritime trade, explaining that port and maritime navigation affairs are currently working on studying their accession to more maritime agreements International that enhances the sustainability of the maritime sector and is making great efforts through continuous inspection and audit operations on Bahraini and foreign ships, in order to ensure the safety of lives and property and protect the marine environment.

The Minister praised the prominent global role of the International Maritime Organization, which currently includes 176 member states, and is responsible for leading international efforts to protect the maritime navigation sector and promoting safety and maritime security, as well as supporting member states through technical and legislative programs that contribute to building their national capabilities and developing their maritime legislation according to the best global standards.

He stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain will continue its active contribution to international efforts to enhance the sustainability of the oceans, and to expand the horizons of cooperation with all regional and international partners in order to build a more sustainable, safe and brighter naval future for future generations.
