The competitions of the eighth and largest edition of the Nasser bin Hamad season for marine heritage sports arrived at the popular rowing station, within the framework of the qualification phase of the final and most expensive race for the His Majesty Cup, where three main races are held at the Cup of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup, and the inherited Cup.
The competitions of this season are witnessing a wide participation that reflects the growing position occupied by this ancient heritage sport in Bahraini and Gulf society, as about 300 contestants representing 19 teams from inside and outside the Kingdom, including 3 teams from the Sultanate of Oman and one team from the United Arab Emirates, participate in an affirmation of the Gulf character of the season and the Gulf children’s keenness to attend and compete in this great heritage event.
The first race will be held on the inherited cup for a distance of 3000 meters, as boats start from the area adjacent to the Khalifa bin Salman Park in the border to the maritime area corresponding to the National Museum of Bahrain in Manama.
The popular rowing boat race is one of the most prominent events in the Nasser bin Hamad season for marine heritage sports, because of its historical and cultural symbolism that documents the relationship of Bahrainis and the Gulf to the sea, and reflects the spirit of cooperation and honorable competition that characterized the life of the ancestors in their maritime trips and traditional professions.
The Nasser bin Hamad season for marine heritage sports is one of the most prominent competitions organized by the Bahraini Committee for Folklore Sports, as it is held with the aim of reviving the marine heritage in which Bahrain has been famous since ancient times and made it an important regional center in pearl hunting.
The activities of this version of the season include various competitions, most notably the swimming competition in open water (inherited swimmer) for different age groups, and the Hir (oyster extract) competition that includes the strides bearing the names of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in addition to the fishing competition (garden) and famous popular rowing races, along with the self -concert that displays traditional diving skills, and the competition The new deam this year, which is witnessing an open invitation for the participants from the Gulf states to highlight the art of authentic maritime voice, will be held inside the studios of the Ministry of Information.
