The Central Bank of Egypt announced the withdrawal of liquidity from banks at a value of 238.150 billion pounds today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 18 banks, through the open market bid, at a benefit price of 22.5%, according to what was published on the bank’s official website.

This step comes within the framework of the monetary policy of the central bank aimed at managing the surplus liquidity within the banking system, and controlling interest rates in line with the goals of monetary policy.
The Central had issued new instructions for the rules organizing the main process of linking deposits, which are conducted through constant weekly auctions, as the bank announces the size of the process in advance, and bids are accepted based on the participation rate for each bank, so that the main process price is applied to it.
In the context of updating the mechanisms of work in a manner consistent with the best international practices, the bank decided to amend the method of accepting bidding, to turn from the relative allocation system to accepting all the bids provided, in order to ensure greater effectiveness in the effect of monetary policy impact.
The “Central” explained that he will continue to manage liquidity in a way that supports the stability of the market and achieves a balance between supply and demand, while committing to maintaining the average price of the weighted return for one night within the scope of the main process price, in order to enhance the efficiency of monetary policy tools in directing interest rates.
The high volume of local liquidity in the banking sector
A few days ago, the Central Bank of Egypt revealed the increase in the volume of local liquidity in the banking sector, 13.186 trillion pounds at the end of last July, compared to 13.072 trillion pounds at the end of June.
According to a recent report issued by the Central Bank, the cash supply volume recorded 3,446 trillion pounds at the end of last July, compared to 3.387 trillion pounds at the end of June 2025.
The Central Bank of Egypt also revealed that the value of the payments executed between banks in the local currency on the instant settlement system reached 169.261 trillion pounds during the first 8 months of 2025 to about 1.710 million operations.
The instant settlement system (RTGS) is used to settle high -importance payment orders, which are largely important that take place within the state’s scope, and the instant settlement system is usually the most important payment system within any country, and therefore it is defined as within the systematic payment systems, due to its influence that extends to many other systems.
