French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday that his country’s recognition of the State of Palestine.
At the beginning of his speech to the two -state solution conference in New York headed by Saudi Arabia and France, Macron confirmed from the United Nations platform that “the time of peace has come.”
He said: “We must pave the way for peace. France today (Monday) announces its recognition of a Palestinian state.”
“We are here because it is time. It is time to release 48 hostages held by Hamas. It is time to stop the war, bombing in Gaza and massacres. It is time because the situation is urgent everywhere.”
He added: “Some will say that it is too late and others will say that time is very early, but we can no longer wait.”
Thus, France joins Western allies such as Britain and Canada, which took the same historical step on Sunday.
Macron considered that the recognition of the State of Palestine is the only solution to achieve peace for Israel, as he saw that this was “a defeat of Hamas.”
He said that “the Palestinian state must be demilitarized,” noting that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas “confirmed his support for Hamas’s disarmament.”
