Israeli media reported, quoting informed sources, that the Prime Minister of the Occupation Government Benjamin Netanyahu will hold a special meeting today to discuss the developments of the ongoing negotiations with Syria, amid increasing American pressure to push the two parties towards an initial security agreement.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation stated that the American administration is seeking to announce this agreement during the eighties of the United Nations General Assembly scheduled for New York, as part of Washington’s attempts to alleviate tensions in the Middle East.
The authority confirmed, according to the sources, that the negotiations between Tel Aviv and Damascus have reached advanced stages, but they have not reached a final formula until now, in light of differences about some security and political items.
A new security agreement between the two parties
Earlier, American reports revealed that the Israeli government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu submitted a detailed proposal to Syria on a new security agreement between the two parties that includes a proposed map from Damascus to the southwest to the border with Israel.
According to the American website, Axius, Syria (to the writing of these lines) did not respond to the Israeli proposal, which was made several weeks ago, and was working to prepare a counter proposal in recent weeks.
