The Faculty of Dar Al Uloom at Cairo University witnessed a discussion of a new master’s thesis for researcher Alaa Mohamed Abdel Hamid Ali, entitled: The automatic analysis of the manifestations of the difference in the vocal footprint in the light of judicial linguistics.

The message is one of the pioneering studies that mixes language science and modern technology, as it reveals the role of computer programs in analyzing the audio fingerprint and extracting its Ostic characteristics such as the basic frequency, severity of sound and spectral representation. The study is based on the fact that each person has a unique sound imprint, through which the identity of the speakers can be identified with high accuracy.
The letter belongs to the field of judicial linguistics, one of the branches of applied linguistics, which focuses on identifying the speaker in what is known as judicial votes.
The researcher asserts that the audio evidence has become more powerful than text evidence in the criminal context, which opens wide horizons for the investigation and judiciary.
The study aims to develop systematic scientific procedures for analyzing sounds in criminal cases, and testing the accuracy of computer programs in proving the uniqueness of the audio fingerprint, in order to support justice and give investigations greater confidence in the results of votes experts.
The study came out with a number of recommendations, most notably: issuing legislation that recognizes the audio fingerprint as a judicial guide, and officially registered it within the citizens ’data when extracting the national number, in addition to the inclusion of specialized programs in automated sound analysis within the curricula of universities, in preparation for the establishment of an accredited diploma for the audio fingerprint at the Faculty of Dar Al Uloom.
The letter is supervised by Dr. Safwat Ali Saleh, Professor of Linguistics and Vice -Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Muhammad Hisham Abu El Fotouh, Professor of Linguistics at the Faculty of Dar Al Uloom and Professor at the Faculty of Law, Cairo University – Khartoum Branch.
As for the Government and Discussion Committee, it includes: Dr. Mohamed Youssef Habas, Professor of Linguistics and Undersecretary of the Faculty of Dar Al Uloom for Graduate Studies and Research.
Dar Al Uloom College, led by Dr. Ahmed Balbula, Dean of the College, confirms that such studies come within the framework of its plan to link academic research to the labor market, and the establishment of specialized laboratories that serve issues with vocal and linguistic evidence, in order to enhance the college’s role in community service.
