Canada condemned, on Wednesday, the Israeli attack on Gaza City, and described the ground operation as “horrific”, calling on Tel Aviv to abide by international law.
Relations between Canada and Israel
The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement through its account on the “X” platform: “The new land attack of Israel in Gaza City is terrible, and exacerbates the humanitarian crisis, and impedes the release of the hostages. The government of Israel must adhere to international law.”
The ministry stressed that “Canada stands with its international partners in calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, providing unrestricted humanitarian aid, and release all hostages.”
This comes after Ottawa announced, last week, that it was “evaluating” its relations with Israel, following the strikes it described as “unacceptable” on Doha, which targeted leaders of Hamas.
For its part, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand stressed during a press conference that “targeting Doha represents a violation of the Qatari air field, at a time when Qatar is trying to work for peace.”
