The Minister of Irrigation meets the Executive Director of the World Bank Group to review the areas of cooperation

Dr. Hani Swailem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, received Abdel Aziz Al Mulla, Executive Director of Egypt at the World Bank Group, to review the areas of joint cooperation between the ministry and the bank.

During the meeting, Dr. Swailem indicated that the World Bank is one of the most important development partners with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, praising the many areas of cooperation implemented between the two sides.

The Minister reviewed many areas of development implemented by the Ministry during the last period in the field of developing legislation and implementing the principles of governance such as issuing the Water Resources Law and Irrigation No. 147 of 2021 and its executive regulations, the process of forming the Supreme Water Council headed by the Prime Minister, expanding the formation of water users ’links, facilitating licensing issuance procedures, and facing encroachments on the Nile and waterways.

The minister pointed out that it is implemented of projects and adopting modern policies to implement the axes of the second generation of the Egyptian irrigation system 2.0, in a way that contributes to maximizing the efficiency of water management, increasing the return from the water unit, integrating indicators of adaptation and mitigating climate change in the various projects of the ministry, reviewing the most important axes and tools of the second generation such as expansion in treating and reusing agricultural wastewater and digital transformation and enhancing dependence on modern technology.

Dr. Swailem stressed the importance of training and building the capabilities of human cadres in the Ministry in cooperation with the World Bank, especially in new fields such as water treatment and desalination for heavy food production.

The preliminary results of the study of water management in Suez Canal were also reviewed, and the procedures for developing this study to prepare sustainable and long -term solutions for water challenges on the canal to meet the various uses of the full canal.
