A Turkish public prosecutor issued an order to detain 48 accused, including the mayor of Bayram Pasha, in Istanbul, which is controlled by the opposition, as part of an investigation of a corruption case, according to the official Turkish Broadcasting and Television Corporation TRT Haber.

Police carried out raids at 72 sites to confiscate documents and arrest suspects on charges that include embezzlement, bribery and manipulation of tenders, according to the same report.
In a post on the X platform, the mayor of Bayram Pasha Hassan Motlou, who belongs to the opposition Republican People’s Party, said he has nothing to hide, describing the investigation as a political process based on unfounded slanders.
These arrests are in the midst of a continuous campaign for about a year targeting its Republican People’s Party and municipalities, as hundreds of party members were arrested and deposited.
On Monday, a court is scheduled to issue a ruling that may lead to the exclusion of the party leader in a case that is widely seen as a fragile balance test between democratic institutions and the central authority in the country, which increases the legal pressure on the party.
