And I read the story of the addictive father who left his son mortgaged to the drug seller who in turn killed the child until he stopped screaming. I remembered the words of God Almighty in his noble book:
Do not kill yourselves, for God was merciful to you
Although all religions deprived everything that goes to the mind and harms the soul, including alcohol and drugs of all kinds.
However, the drug turned into one of the most dangerous pests facing contemporary societies, as their danger is not limited to the addict himself, but extends to the family and the entire society. As this problem exacerbates, the manifestations of violence are increasing and traffic accident rates increase, which makes it an issue that needs to be combined with all efforts to confront them.
The weak souls seek to exploit the factors that drive individuals, especially young people, to use drugs, the most prominent of which are the weakness of religious and moral faith, and the bad companions who encourage experience out of entertainment or challenge, in addition to family disintegration resulting from differences or neglect, which causes children to search for a psychological refuge outside the home. Psychological and social pressures such as anxiety, depression and unemployment also contribute to pushing some to addiction to escape reality, as well as the absence of societal awareness of the dangers of drugs and its health and social damages.
The drug affects a devastating effect on various aspects of life, as it leads to the collapse of the family structure and the high rates of crime; Because the addict needs money, as it causes declining productivity and poor performance in work and study, and increases the health and economic burdens on the state; Due to the costs of treatment and care.
Drug use is closely related to the spread of violence and the high traffic accidents, as drugs weaken nerve control, and lead to aggressive behavior towards others, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol leads to loss of concentration and increased collision rates, in addition to the spread of societal violence generates reckless behavior while driving such as excessive speed or risk transgression.
Hence the fight against this phenomenon requires joint cooperation between all institutions of society by raising awareness of the dangers of addiction through media campaigns and educational programs, enhancing the role of the family in following up children and providing a healthy and supportive environment, and activating the role of schools and universities in spreading awareness and fortifying students from bad companions. Psychological support programs must be provided to young people to help them face pressure and challenges, and apply laws firmly against promoters and drug traffickers, in addition to providing real job opportunities to reduce void and unemployment.
If the effect of drugs and violence on society and traffic accidents is very dangerous, then its confrontation requires a collective responsibility that starts from the individual and the family, and extends to state institutions. With consciousness, sound education, and the application of laws, we can build a safe society free from drugs and violence, which is prevalent in security and stability.
Protecting society from drugs and violence begins with consciousness and ends in cooperation, as it is a battle that we must fight all.
