After many years of controversy, the process of dismantling the “Lake Hotel”, the iconic building in the form of an inverted pyramid in the center of the capital.
The latest attempts of civil society activists to fail to prevent the demolition of the building, in an attempt to preserve a rare architectural legacy, according to “DPA”.
The hotel is surrounded by a fold of works for an invested Libyan company that has acquired the property since 2011, with the aim of re -preparation before its plans turned into a demolition due to the statute of limitations of the building.
Activists have fought a long dispute with the company and the municipality of Tunisia to retract the demolition decision, while the controversy between the Tunisians returned between a supporter and refusal to remove the dilapidated and deserted building since 2000.
Tourists and Tunisians are seeking to take the last pictures of the hotel before it disappears from the map.
The “lake” was built between 1970 and 1973, off the Lake of Tunis, and it was represented for decades, along with the “Africa” tower on the main street, Habib Bourguiba, and the abandoned “Hana” is also the interface of the architectural modernization of Tunisia in the post -independence period in 1956.
The ancient hostel designed by Italian architect Rafael Countegani included more than 400 bedrooms, which were distributed over 10 floors.
The building, with its inverted hierarchical design, was one of the few landmarks in the world that embodies the opposite architecture or the “cruel architecture” stream that prevailed for a limited period in the second half of the twentieth century.
