International civil society organizations are moving in an unprecedented initiative under the name “The World Fleet of Resilience” to try to break the maritime blockade imposed on the sector and deliver the humanitarian aid that the population needs urgently.
Marine convoys of 44 countries
On August 31, dozens of boats and ships will sail from 44 different countries towards Gaza beaches, some from Spain, and others from Tunisia on September 4. This initiative is the fruit of the union of three international movements: the Freedom Fleet Alliance, the Global Movement for Gaza, and the Moroccan convoy of steadfastness. The goal: breaking the land, sea and air blockade imposed for years and handing over humanitarian aid to the residents of the sector who face the risk of complete collapse.
Various global support
The solidarity call with the Palestinians received a wide response from political, cultural and artistic personalities from different countries of the world, in addition to thousands of citizens, including doctors, journalists and lawyers. The organizers wrote: “Every boat represents a society that rejects silence in front of genocide.” Among the most prominent supporters globally: environmental activist Greta Thonberg, actors Mark Rovalo and Susan Sarandon William Caningham.
Voices from Italy to Venice
In Italy, artists and intellectuals such as Alessandro Ghassaman and Claudio Santamaria participated in supporting the initiative. Italian artists also sent an open message during the Venice Film Festival calling for a clear position against “ongoing genocide”, which were signed by prominent names such as Gabrieli Machino, Tony Servilo and Marco Belukio.
“Resilience” .. peaceful resistance
The campaign embodies a peaceful civil disobedience in which it can be participated in the field on the ships or remotely, in the face of what was described as “one of the most terrible contemporary crimes.” This comes after previous experiments, such as the interception of the “Madeleine” and “Handalah” ship in international waters by the Israeli navy.
A continuous tragedy in Gaza
The Israeli army’s operations in Gaza continue, leaving hundreds of victims, while civilians are shooting even while trying to get food. The United Nations confirmed that the residents of the sector are subjected to “artificial” famine, amid the continued bombing that targeted Nasser Bakhn Yunis Hospital and killed 20 people, including five journalists, using the “double strike technology” targeting the rescue teams after the first blow.
West Bank
In the West Bank, the situation gets worse with the escalation of settlers and demolitions, even for European -funded schools. The Palestinians are afraid of the “E1” project, which connects the settlement of His Excellency Adumim to East Jerusalem, which may actually divide the West Bank into two parts.
Western governments inaction
While civil initiatives for Gaza are moving, Western governments continue their silence, contented with shy data without real procedures, but rather hesitating even in recognition of the State of Palestine or in a limited comment of European financing for Israel.
