Google has revealed an upcoming update to the application of its messages, aimed at raising the level of safety and privacy for conversations, and the new feature depends on the icon of the rapid response symbols (QR Codes) to verify the identity of the other party, instead of the complex traditional method that relied on matching a symbol of 80 numbers.
How does the new technology work?
When opening any conversation within the messaging application, the user can enter chat details and choose the option of “checking the encryption”, and here a new button appears to survey the quick response code for the contact, then share the personal code with the other party, and once the mutual scan is made, the identity is confirmed and the communication is documented directly within the “connected applications” section in the Google contact application.
When is the feature available on Android phones?
The feature is currently available in the experimental version of the application, and it is expected to officially reach all Android 9 phones and above at the end of 2025, and this feature will come within what Google calls “the unified system to verify the public key”, which makes it more flexible and sustainable compared to previous options.
Continuous support and additional option
Despite the introduction of this simplified mechanism, the old way to verify through long numbers will remain available to those who want to use it, and this gives users the freedom to choose the most appropriate method for them, whether through modern technology or traditional methods.

Towards a unified security standard for correspondence
Google confirms that the goal of the new feature exceeds the application of messages only, as the company seeks to expand the system to include other applications later, which may open the door to creating a unified security standard through various correspondence services, and this step, and if it seems small, may contribute greatly to combating attempts to impersonate identity, which makes the communication experience more secure and reliable for millions of users.
