Dr. Ibrahim Abdel -Hadi, head of the national campaign to advance wheat at the Ministry of Agriculture, confirmed that the current wheat season witnessed great success and achieved unprecedented supply rates, as the Supply Commodities Authority received about 4 million tons, compared to 3.25 million tons last season, an increase of 530 thousand tons, which provided the state equivalent to $ 150 million of hard currency.
Agriculture: Supply more than 4 million tons of wheat this season
Abdel Hadi said during television statements, that the increase achieved this season came as a result of several factors, most notably the early announcement of the guiding price of wheat crop, which encouraged farmers to expand the cultivated areas, in addition to providing accredited seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and guidance support through the Agricultural Research Center and field seminars that covered various villages, as well as the appropriate weather conditions that helped produce and virus.
He pointed out that the national campaign to advance wheat organized more than 24 counseling fields in various governorates, allowing farmers to see the typical experiences in all stages of agriculture until the harvest. The Ministry also provided incentives and support to small farmers, among them supported seeds of half of their price, and laser settlement services to raise the efficiency of agriculture.
On the future plan, Abdel -Hadi said that the state aims to reach 70% self -sufficiency of wheat by 2030, through the horizontal expansion of cultivation from 300 to 400 thousand additional acres annually from the newly reclaimed lands, as well as vertical expansion by developing new highly productive varieties and resistant to diseases.
He revealed that wheat imports witnessed a remarkable decline this year, as Egypt imported 5.5 million tons during the period from January to July 2025, compared to 8 million tons in the same period last year, with a decrease of 33%.
