The United Nations officially announced the state of famine in Gaza City, in the first declaration of its kind in the Middle East, amid direct accusations of Israel of obstructing the introduction of humanitarian aid into the besieged sector.
During a media briefing in Geneva, the Undersecretary of the United Nations Secretary -General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, said during a media briefing in Geneva that the famine in Gaza should all disturb us, stressing that it was completely avoiding if the United Nations was not systematically banned from delivering food aid.
Fletcher added: Aid is stable at the crossings due to intentional Israeli obstacles, considering what happens a collective moment, calling on the international community not to be silent in front of this worsening humanitarian catastrophe.
A direct result of the measures of the Israeli government
In the same context, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said that famine is a direct result of the measures of the Israeli government, warning that the deaths caused by starvation may rise to a war crime, and are classified as intentional killing.
United Nations experts confirmed that about 500,000 people in Gaza are currently facing catastrophic levels of hunger, noting that the situation exceeded the warning stage and has become an urgent and immediate response.
