The delegation of the Parliamentary Division of the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by Representative Hassan Bouhmas, Chairman of the National Affairs, Defense and National Security Committee in the House of Representatives, and Dr. Bassam Al -Banmah Muhammad, member of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security Committee in the Shura Council, participated in a virtual event organized by the International Parliamentary Union today (Thursday) under the title: “Educational Policies to prevent terrorism and empower the victims”, with the wide participation of parliamentarians, policy makers and international experts From different continents.
The activities of the event focused on discussing the role of education in combating terrorism and violent extremism, as one of the most important preventive tools that are able to build generations fortified with knowledge and the values of tolerance and moderation. During the sessions, successful international experiments were reviewed in integrating curricula and educational programs that contribute to spreading a culture of peace, and enhancing societal awareness to confront hatred and incitement speeches.
The event included specialized interventions that dealt with the human dimensions of the phenomenon of terrorism, and the need to empower, protect and support victims at the legal, social and psychological levels, in a manner that guarantees their integration into their societies and enhances its stability. The mechanisms for developing national and international legislations that guarantee the promotion of justice and the confrontation of terrorism in all its forms were also discussed.
The organization of this event comes within the framework of the strategic directions of the International Parliamentary Union to enhance global cooperation between parliaments in the areas of security, peace and development, and highlight the role of legislative institutions in setting policies and controlling the implementation of educational programs and humanitarian initiatives related to combating terrorism.
