Tek Tok continues to expand its presence outside the usual entertainment framework and this time through a step that brings back the first beginnings of Facebook, the platform has announced a new feature called “Campus Verification”, allowing university students to add their university data to their personal files and communicate with classmates more easily.
How the new feature works
Students can add their university to their personal file by clicking on the option of “adding a school”, then entering the name of the university and the year of graduation, after which the users are asked to verify through their academic email to ensure that they are really students in the selected educational institution to show the name of the university and the graduation year next to their information on the account.
Building a student community within Tech Tok
After completing the verification, the student can browse his university page, and search for colleagues from the same batch or other batches with the possibility of arranging accounts according to the most follow -up, and the platform aims from this step to create a social space similar to its first idea, Facebook’s mission when it started as a way to connect Harvard students with each other in 2004.
Wide partnership with verification platforms
The feature is now available across more than six thousand universities around the world thanks to the Partnership of Tek Tok with the UIDAIS platform specialized in checking the identity of students, giving the feature credibility and makes its use available on a wide global scale.
Between strengthening links and privacy concerns
Although the feature may help students make real friendships on the campus, some have expressed concern about the possibility of misuse or facilitating the follow -up of others via the Internet, and Tech Talk asserts that the feature is completely optional, which leaves students the freedom to add their data or be satisfied with the platform away from their university life.
Unnamed competition with Instagram
It is noteworthy that the launch of this feature came after monitoring previous experiences with Instagram last year to add a similar feature that allows students to display their educational data on the profile, but it was not yet clear whether the royal company, dead, intends to move forward in its development or that it canceled the idea.
