The US Department of Commerce said that it will raise customs duties on steel and aluminum on more than 400 products including electric car parts, wind turbines and mobile cranes, as well as devices, bulldozers and other heavy equipment, as well as railway cars, motorcycles, marine engines, furniture and hundreds of other products.

According to Reuters, the ministry announced the addition of 407 categories of products to the list of steel and aluminum products that are subject to sectoral customs duties, with 50% customs duties imposed on any content of steel and aluminum in these products, in addition to the national average on non -steel and aluminum content.
Evercore ISI stated in a research note that this step includes more than 400 productive symbols, representing imports of more than $ 200 billion last year, and estimated that it will raise the rate of total actual customs duties by one percentage point.
The ministry also adds parts imported to car exhaust systems and electric steel needed for electric cars to the new customs duties, in addition to bus components and air conditioners, in addition to home appliances including refrigerators, freezers and dryers.
A group of foreign auto companies urged the ministry not to add these pieces, saying that the United States of America does not have the local ability to meet the current demand.
For its part, Tesla from the Ministry of Commerce, to no avail, requested the refusal of the request to add steel products used in electric car engines and wind turbines, explaining this that there is no American production capacity available to produce steel used in electric cars payment units.
