Dr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture, stressed that Egypt has succeeded during the past four or five years in opening new markets for Egyptian agricultural products, whether in its fresh or manufactured form, noting that the volume of exports witnessed a remarkable growth that reflects the strength of competition and the quality of local production.
Farouk: Entering global markets requires compatibility with strict specifications
Farouk said during televised statements, that entering global markets requires compatibility with the strict specifications imposed by the importing countries, pointing out that the laboratories of the Ministry of Agriculture, the sections of pesticides, agricultural quarantine and agricultural counseling worked to ensure that products match the international specifications, which contributed to the spread of Egyptian exports.
The minister said that Egypt succeeded in penetrating one of the most difficult global markets, Japan, stressing that Egyptian citrus has become invading international markets, along with potatoes, grapes, and strawberries that Egypt occupies the first place globally, whether fresh or frozen.
The Minister of Agriculture pointed out that Egypt is currently issuing more than 168 markets around the world, adding that there is close cooperation with the associations of exporters to participate in international exhibitions, including the German exhibition, which highlighted the quality of Egyptian products.
On the future of the olive sector, he explained that Egypt is one of the largest countries producing table olives, but the global trend is currently tending to olive oil, especially after production declined in countries such as Italy, which created great opportunities for the Egyptian product.
He revealed the start of many farms in areas such as Wadi Al -Natrun, Matrouh, and Siwa in expanding the cultivation of olives for manufacturing in order to produce oil and packing, stressing that the global olive market market is very promising and its prices are high.
