The health authorities in the US state of Texas announced today, Monday, the end of measles outbreaks in the western state, after 6 entire weeks have passed since the last injury was recorded.

The state’s health services department confirmed that efforts will be focused on strengthening vaccination campaigns to raise community immunity levels and prevent the appearance of new waves of the disease in the future, according to Reuters.

According to health administration data, the outbreak began in late January and resulted in August 18 to register 762 confirmed cases, including 99 cases that required hospitalization, in addition to the death of two children of study age. Texas topped the list of the American states most affected by measles this year, at a time when the country has registered the largest outbreak of the disease since its official declaration in the United States in 2000.

Despite the announcement of control over the outbreak, the health authorities stressed that the danger has not ended, explaining that the continued spread of measles in North America and the world increases the possibility of new cases in Texas this year, and for this the competent authorities will continue to monitor the epidemic situation, despite the suspension of the interactive database of the outbreak.

Measles are a highly infected viral disease, transmitted through respiratory spray and causes symptoms such as fever, cough and distinctive rash, and in some cases it may lead to serious complications such as lung inflammation or encephalitis, which makes vaccination the most effective method of preventing it.

On the national level, the centers of control and prevention control reported that 1356 confirmed cases were recorded until August 5, but the update of the numbers was late after a shooting accident at the agency’s headquarters in Atlanta, but officials confirmed the continued communication with the local health authorities and the resumption of publishing data soon.
