Researchers from the German Center for Detective Neurological Diseases have found that the immune system in the brain attacks the nerve fibers responsible for treating odors at an early stage, which leads to a noticeable decline in the ability to smell before other areas of the brain are exposed, according to the Finndes.
An early mark reveals Alzheimer’s disease
In its research, the team relied on a study of brain tissue for experimental mice, as well as human samples of people who died in the early stages of Alzheimer’s.
It turned out that there is a clear decrease in the fibers produced by Al -Nurfinin in the olfactory onion, compared to the brains of healthy people.
In studies conducted on living patients, scientists used an advanced imaging technique known as TSPO-Peet, which revealed a high activity of immune cells in the olfactory onion in those who suffer from a simple cognitive impairment, a case that is a possible introduction to Alzheimer’s, and it is noteworthy that this activity was not much higher in patients actually diagnosed what indicates that change occurs in very early stages.
Smell recognition tests also showed that Alzheimer’s patients record results with much lower than healthy or even those with cognitive weakness, which supports the idea that losing smell can be a preliminary examination tool for the disease.
The study showed that nervous damage is linked only to the system of light, without the fibers responsible for other neurotransmitters such as Acely Coleen or Serotonin, and this may be believed to explain the difference between losing the sense of smell in Alzheimer’s compared to Parkinson’s disease, where the nose is directly affected by sensory neurons.
The researchers hope that these results will be paved to develop a simple smell test that helps doctors to early detection of Alzheimer’s and therapeutic intervention at a time when the opportunity still exists to reduce the progress of the disease.
