A medical team at the National Liver Institute at the University of Menoufia succeeded in conducting a liver transplant for a 7 -year -old child who was suffering from severe hepatic failure, after receiving him in a critical condition and transferring him from the Comprehensive Health Insurance Hospital in Suez.
The reception of this case is the second activation of the joint cooperation protocol between the National Liver Institute and the Comprehensive Health Insurance Authority, as the only institute in Egypt is specialized in receiving acute liver failures in children, which reflects its pivotal role in providing specialized care for these critical cases, and the necessary checks for the child and rapid surgical intervention were conducted within 48 hours to save his life, and transfer a lobe of the liver from his donor. Dr. Osama Hegazy, the dean of the institute and head of the surgical team, stressed that the process reflects the commitment of the institute to provide the highest levels of health care, especially for cases of children that require high accuracy and sensitivity, noting that the speed of procedures and the patient’s preparation and the donor in less than 48 hours highlights the efficiency of the medical team.
The medical team included Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dr. Hani Abdel Majid, Dr. Taha Yassin, Dr. Ahmed Salam, Dr. Yahya Fayed, Dr. Ahmed Shawky, Dr. Ammar Magdy, Dr. Sami Sameh, Dr. Al -Sayed Hijazi, Dr. Doaa Sabri and Dr. Ahmed Tamer, along with a group of anesthesiologists who worked together to ensure the success of the process.
