A recent study issued by the American Chemical Society warned of the dangers of using what is known as the magic sponge made of melanamine foam, stressing that it releases trillion from fine plastic particles monthly, making it a threat to public health and the environment.

According to the study, one sponge can release up to 6.5 million accurate plastic fibers per gram, which means, based on the Amazon platform sales data, that monthly emissions globally may reach about 1.55 trillion fibers, with the possibility that the actual number is much larger.
The results indicated that these fine particles, which are less than 5 mm in size are able to move to air, water and food, and then reach the human body, where they were found in the lung, liver, kidneys, brain and even in breast milk and semen.
Previous research has also linked these molecules with problems in the digestive, reproductive and breathing system, weak immunity, increased risk of heart attacks, strokes and some types of cancer, in addition to dementia.
Experts called for the need to develop more solid sponges to reduce emissions, use natural plastic cleaning tools, while avoiding monochrome plastic, wearing clothes of natural fibers, and not heating food in plastic vessels.
