On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a phone call to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
The US State Department announced that the contact was made to prepare for the upcoming Alaska summit between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
“The two sides confirmed their pledge to ensure the success of the event,” spokeswoman Tami Bruce told reporters.
