Kuwaiti Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al -Awadi, issued a ministerial decision to reduce the prices of the Terzepatide medicine “Montgowment” with all its concentrations, which is given through an injection in the form of pre -filled pens, in the list of lowering the prices of medicines and pharmaceutical preparations listed in Ministerial Resolution No. 74 of 2023.
The Ministry indicated that the decision includes a 30 percent reduction in the current price from the previous price, to become the lowest price in the region, with the aim of reducing the financial burden on patients, and it is scheduled to start work after three months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, which allows the Al -Ahly health sector a sufficient period to prepare and implement the required discounts.
She indicated that this drug is one of the latest treatment innovations in the field of diabetes, as it is used to control blood sugar levels and help to control weight, which makes it a double use option for patients with type 2 diabetes.
The ministry pointed out that the decision came to enhance patients’ access to innovative treatment at fair prices, in line with national policies to align the prices of medicines with international references, and support the sustainability of treatment for patients with chronic diseases.
She referred to the Terzepatide drug belonging to the category of the dual GIP and GLP-1 receptors, and is given once a week using a pre-filled injection pen, which contributes to facilitating patients ’commitment to treatment and achieving better health results, whether at the level of blood sugar control or weight loss.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that this decision would improve the quality of health care, reduce complications related to diabetes, and enhance the efficiency of the national health system in a way that benefits the health of the individual and society.
