A sudden malfunction in Google Maps prevents millions from planning to return home

An increasing number of users of the Google Maps application began to report a sudden problem that leads to the collapse of the application as soon as it is trying to use it to obtain guidelines related to public transport, which sparked a wave of complaints on social media platforms and support forums, amid official silence from the company so far.

Public transportation malfunction only

The holidays are limited to the advantage of steering using buses or trains inside the application, while the rest of the movement of mobility, such as walking, driving, or cycling, remains naturally, and a number of users on Pixel phones mentioned that the application collapses directly by simply pressing the “public transport” option after entering the required destination.

Initial reports confirmed that the holidays are not linked to a specific version of the application, even after some users updated to the latest version of Google Maps (version 25.30.00.785163646), the problem continued to appear, indicating that the reason may be linked to Google servers or a specific mechanism in processing transmission data.

Why did Google not yet interfere?

Until the moment of writing this report, Google did not issue any official statement on the defect, and the Google Maps status page did not include the problem within the ongoing breakdowns, which is likely that the holidays are still geographically limited or technical, and did not reach the level of the global crisis.

The Android Police team managed to successfully reproduce the problem on some devices, which enhances the credibility of the circulating reports, but they indicated that the holidays did not appear on all devices or accounts, which makes it difficult for users to determine whether the problem is general or related to individual factors such as settings or geographical sites.

A limited but annoying effect

Although the problem does not affect all users or all patterns of movement, its impact is significant on a category that mainly depends on public transportation, especially in the major cities in which these means are used on a daily basis.

In the absence of a solution, users are currently resorting to alternative applications such as Citymapper or Movit, or even for temporary return to manual methods of planning for trips.
