The crisis took off after the referee of the match declared the red card in the face of Al -Ahly coach Benghazi, Nasser Al -Hudhairi, after an inappropriate behavior issued by him after his assistant, Adel Al -Shaari, protested against one of the referee’s decisions, calling for a return to the assistant video technology (VAR), the behavior led to his expulsion directly, which blew up a wave of anger at the bench of Al -Ahly Benghazi’s substitutes.
Al -Hadiri refused to leave the stadium, which led to an escalation of tension inside the field, amid protests from the technical and administrative staff of the Benghazi team. The events summoned the Italian police intervention to secure the stadium and try to calm the situation.
Despite the attempts of the referees and observers to persuade the technical staff of Al -Ahly Benghazi to calm the situation and complete the match, the mission insisted on its position to withdraw in the event that Al -Hadiri was not allowed to stay, which led to the final stop of the match with the end of the first half.
It is expected that the Competitions Committee will hold an emergency meeting to investigate what happened, and to take appropriate decisions regarding the results of the meeting, and whether the match will be counted in favor of Al -Ahly Tripoli or other measures will be taken, in the first crisis in the coronation phase this season.
