The head of the municipal council in the southern region called for the prevention of random powers (mattresses) in the fields and public sidewalks, especially those devoted to selling fish and vegetables, stressing that it constitutes a threat to public safety and hinders the movement of citizens.

He said that these stalls cause harm to shop owners and stores close to random stalls, as there is no fair competition due to the failure of street vendors to pay any municipal or tax fees or rental costs, which enables them to sell their products at lower prices, which causes a very large rate of customer movement that may lead to the closure of shops; As the shops bear the costs of licenses and health requirements, while the stalls work without supervision.

He stressed that the spread of these stalls in vital places causes traffic congestion, and impedes the movement of pedestrians, especially in public fields and in front of pharmacies, services buildings and schools, in addition to the sale of fish and vegetables in brushes without controls and without good storage that exposes them to pollution, which threatens the health of citizens, and also leaves organic waste that attracts insects, and distorts the urban appearance in the place of those brushes.

He pointed out that he received many complaints from the residents of some neighborhoods adjacent to these brushes, which demanded the competent authorities to implement the law of organizing street vendors, the general cleaning law and obliging the sellers to obtain official licenses that allow work in specific places and is healthy, with fines imposed on violators.

He also called on the authorities to implement extensive campaigns in cooperation with the municipalities to control the violators, especially the unlicensed fish sellers, indicating that the solution is not in complete ban, but rather in organizing work according to licenses that guarantee the rights of all.
